Aston Villa secured a 2-0 victory over Cardiff City in the FA Cup fifth round, advancing to the quarter-finals. Marco Asensio netted both goals in the second half, with Marcus Rashford assisting the opener. The FA Cup draw is set for Sunday evening following the Man Utd vs. Fulham match.

Cardiff

  • Showed resilience in the first hour.
  • Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath made seven crucial saves.
  • Struggled to contain Villa’s attack in the second half.
  • Conceded twice after Rashford and Asensio combined effectively.

Aston Villa secured a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Championship side Cardiff City, courtesy of Marco Asensio's second-half brace. Cardiff held firm for over an hour, with goalkeeper Ethan Horvath making seven key saves, but Villa finally broke through when Rashford and Asensio combined for the opener.

Asensio slotted in Rashford's cut-back in the 68th minute to break the deadlock, then doubled his tally in the 80th minute, securing Unai Emery's side a spot in the next round.

Aston Villa now awaits Sunday evening's draw, set to follow Manchester United's clash with Fulham at Old Trafford, to learn their quarter-final opponent.

Villa controlled the match and probably should have taken the lead well before their opening goal, as Ollie Watkins and Rashford, still searching for his first goal in claret and blue, both missed chances from close range before halftime.
