Barcelona intends to renew the contract of one of its players in the upcoming period, keeping him at the Catalan club for several more years. This player is Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who had previously seen an offer withdrawn by Barcelona amid speculation about a potential sale at the end of the season.

Back in January, reports indicated that Barcelona would delay discussions with de Jong until the summer, with rumors circulating that he might move to the Premier League or even be sold to a Saudi club, as mentioned in the Catalan press. At that time, de Jong had fallen out of favor in the starting lineup, leading to reports suggesting that Barcelona was moving towards selling him, especially with only one year remaining on his contract.

However, according to the Spanish newspaper Sport, Barcelona has now presented a new offer to de Jong, extending his contract until 2028. The new deal would run for three years, with a salary ranging between 18 and 19 million euros annually, but it would also include the cancellation of deferred payments from his previous contract.

It is reported that Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, made this offer during a meeting with the player's agent in February. A response is expected from de Jong in the coming weeks.

After overcoming the physical issues he faced in 2024, de Jong is now the target of several Premier League clubs looking to secure his services through serious offers. One of the clubs interested in signing the Dutch international is Arsenal, which may become one of Barcelona's primary competitors for his signature.

Despite this, Barcelona remains optimistic about de Jong's continued stay at the club, especially since the midfielder himself appears inclined to remain at the Catalan club. His preference to stay at Barcelona is seen as a key factor in the club’s confidence that he will extend his contract rather than seek a m

ove away.
