Barcelona is facing significant challenges in securing one of the Premier League's top stars during the upcoming summer transfer window.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Alexander Isak, the Newcastle United striker, has been on Barcelona's radar since January of last year, but the move now appears nearly impossible.

The Catalan club is keen to strengthen their central forward position as their key player, Robert Lewandowski, turns 37 in August.

The transfer has become increasingly difficult due to the intense interest in Isak from several major European clubs, which have greater financial resources than Barcelona.

The report highlights that Isak’s impressive form has attracted attention from Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United in the Premier League, as well as Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich.

Aside from the fierce competition from top European clubs, Newcastle’s asking price poses a significant hurdle, especially with Isak under contract until 2028.

If Newcastle fails to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, keeping Isak could prove difficult, given his strong desire to play in the competition.

Mundo Deportivo states: “Newcastle paid €90 million, plus add-ons, to acquire Isak, and should they decide to sell him, they will demand over €100 million for a profit.”

The report adds: “Isak currently earns €18 million per year, with potential increases if he moves to another club.”

It continues: “Financially, this transfer is extremely challenging for Barcelona, which must adhere to strict Financial Fair Play regulations.”

The report concludes: “To sign Isak, Barcelona would need to offload several players and comply with the 1-1 rule to register any new acquisitions.”
