Real Madrid left-back Fran García is dealing with muscle overload in his thigh following last Saturday’s match against Villarreal. The Spanish defender completed the game but experienced discomfort in his quadriceps, prompting the club’s medical staff to implement a specific recovery plan. Fortunately, the current international break allows him ample time to regain full fitness ahead of Real Madrid’s next fixture, scheduled for Saturday, March 29, against Leganés at the Santiago Bernabéu.
While García’s issue is considered minor, his condition adds to Carlo Ancelotti’s growing injury concerns, particularly in the left-back position. His teammate Ferland Mendy, who has been struggling with injuries throughout the season, is currently sidelined with a biceps femoris muscle injury and is expected to remain out for at least three more weeks. This leaves Ancelotti with a significant dilemma, as García is the only natural left-back close to full recovery.
Ancelotti’s Squad Faces Injury Setbacks
Beyond the left-back position, injuries continue to pile up for Real Madrid, leaving the Italian coach with only one fully fit first-team player during the international break: Lucas Vázquez. The remaining squad members staying behind at Valdebebas—the club’s training complex—are all nursing injuries. This includes Dani Ceballos, Jesús Vallejo, Éder Militão, and Dani Carvajal, who will use the international period to continue their rehabilitation programs.
With so many key players out, Lucas Vázquez will train with the reserve team during the break. Meanwhile, Ancelotti is hoping to avoid any further setbacks as he prepares for the upcoming matches in both La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
Madrid’s International Stars Called Up for National Duty
Despite the club’s injury issues, 16 Real Madrid players have been called up to represent their national teams during the break. The list includes:
- Spain: Raúl Asencio
- France: Kylian Mbappé, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurélien Tchouaméni
- Croatia: Luka Modrić
- Germany: Antonio Rüdiger
- Belgium: Thibaut Courtois
- Ukraine: Andriy Lunin
- Turkey: Arda Güler
- Austria: David Alaba
- England: Jude Bellingham
- Brazil: Vinícius Júnior, Rodrygo, Endrick
- Uruguay: Fede Valverde
- Morocco: Brahim Díaz
As these players depart for international duty, Ancelotti faces an anxious wait, hoping that none of them suffer injuries before returning to Madrid. With crucial matches on the horizon, Real Madrid will need all hands on deck once club football resumes at the end of March.
