Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has underlined the immense challenge his team will face when they go head-to-head with Spanish giants Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals, scheduled for Tuesday at the Emirates Stadium. Speaking during the pre-match press conference, Arteta shared both his excitement and determination ahead of what he described as the most significant match of his managerial career to date.

“We’re ready to conquer Real Madrid—that’s the mentality I want,” said Arteta, setting a confident tone. He acknowledged the magnitude of the fixture, emphasizing the opportunity it represents for his squad to carve out their own legacy on the European stage. “This is definitely the biggest match of my career as a coach. Preparing for such a demanding game is thrilling. We have a great opportunity to write our own story,” he explained.

Arteta also spoke about the importance of belief and fan support. He noted that while talent and tactics are critical, the emotional and psychological side of the game cannot be underestimated. “I believe we deserve a bit of luck tomorrow, and we’ll do everything we can to make a difference on the pitch. I want our fans to come to the stadium not just to watch, but to actively take part in the game. Their energy can make a huge impact.”

While confident in his team, Arteta remains realistic about the threat Real Madrid poses. “There are things we can’t control, like how Real Madrid will approach the game or what tactical surprises they might bring. That’s why our focus needs to be on ourselves—understanding our strengths and weaknesses, and using them effectively.”

The Arsenal boss emphasized the strategic importance of getting a positive result at home before heading to Madrid for the second leg. “Taking a lead into the second leg would be extremely valuable. But we know that it’s only half-time in a two-legged tie. Our mindset is clear: we want to win tomorrow and we’re ready to fight for it.”

Arteta also highlighted the significance of Martin Ødegaard, who is set to face his former club. “Martin is a crucial player for us. He embodies the spirit and values of Arsenal in a remarkable way. His leadership and quality will be vital in this match.”

Reflecting on Arsenal’s historical performance in the Champions League, Arteta pointed out the rarity of reaching this stage in recent years. “We’ve only been in the quarterfinals twice in the past 15 years. That shows how difficult it is. But now that we’re here, we want to go even further and make history.”

He also praised defender Jurrien Timber, who recently returned from a long-term injury. “Timber is an exceptional talent. People may not have realized the quality he brings when we signed him, but he’s shown he’s a leader on and off the pitch. Even after a difficult year with injury, he’s remained focused and consistent. We’re hopeful he’ll be ready to contribute tomorrow.”

Arteta concluded by acknowledging the individual brilliance of Real Madrid’s players. “When you face a team like Madrid, you know that individual moments can decide the outcome. We have to be sharp and ready for that level of challenge.”

With belief, strategy, and unity, Arteta and his Arsenal squad are preparing to give everything in their bid to overcome one of Europe’s most decorated teams.
